When one DecksGo customer set out to build a staircase down a steep bluff, the project came with some serious challenges.
The terrain was difficult, access was limited, and the goal was to complete the installation using only hand-held tools while disturbing as little soil and sand as possible.
Traditional concrete footings would have meant digging, moving material, and creating a much larger footprint along the slope.
Instead, he turned to the Deck Foot Anchor.
Working down a bluff is very different from building on a flat backyard.
Every footing location can be harder to reach, soil conditions can change from one spot to the next, and moving heavy equipment or concrete down the slope may not be practical.
For this project, keeping the installation simple and low-impact was a major priority.

"I am working in a very difficult install of stairs down a bluff, the footings have been great and are making the job possible. The goal with this project is to install exclusively with hand tools, and have minimal disturbance of soil/sand."
- Brian S.
That made the Deck Foot Anchor a natural fit.
Because the anchors can be installed with a heavy-duty cordless impact wrench, the builder was able to work his way down the bluff without bringing in large equipment or excavating oversized footing holes.
At the time of his review, roughly 20 Ledger Deck Foot Anchors had already been installed.

"As of this writing, I’ve installed about 20 and all have gone in without issue. I am using a heavy duty cordless impact which works great."
That kind of installation flexibility is especially valuable on difficult terrain, where access and mobility can become just as important as footing strength.
Instead of hauling bags of concrete or digging deep holes by hand, each footing could be installed directly at the required location with portable tools.
One of the biggest advantages of this project was how little the surrounding ground needed to be disturbed.
The helical auger drives into the soil rather than requiring a large excavation, helping preserve the existing slope and surrounding landscape.
For projects near:
Bluffs
Shorelines
Sandy terrain
Trails
Sloped yards
Hard-to-access areas
that smaller installation footprint can make a major difference.
It also helped the builder stay true to one of the main goals of the project: complete the staircase while leaving the site as undisturbed as possible.
This bluff staircase is a great example of where a self-installed helical footing can really shine.
Instead of fighting the terrain with excavation, concrete, and heavy equipment, the builder was able to work with the site using portable tools and a much smaller installation footprint.
The result is a staircase foundation that is strong, practical, and far less disruptive to the surrounding soil.
For challenging projects where access is limited and keeping disturbance to a minimum matters, the Ledger Deck Foot Anchor can offer a simple alternative to traditional concrete footings.
No heavy equipment. No digging. Rock-solid results.
