It firmly mates with the shoulder portion of the tube and evenly distributes the force of hammer blows.  The universal tool works for a 4x4 anchor even though most people find hammering the 4x4 anchor to be quite quick and easy.  But if you have a lot to do it will make it that much easier.  And this single tool also fits the tube for a 6x6 and 8x8 anchor.

It worked well for me, drove the plates in very well took about 10 hits to drive it home. It does bounce off after each hit but still worked well.

nice tool

This is a nice tool to help prevent really messing up the center and edges of your anchor when trying to hammer the anchor into your post. They have a tendency to come off the anchor between hits but I still think it was worth the money. Just not sure what I am going to do with it now that my project is over.
